Ronnie shares her knowledge of traditional coil weaving (taught by Aunty Jenny Dries), traditional games, animal and doll making (inspired by Tjanpi Desert Weavers) and enjoys sharing her knowledge on bush tucker plants.

Ronnie delivers workshops to schools, community and government and non-government organisations.

Ronnie is proud of her Aboriginality and is passionate in sharing Aboriginal culture with other people. Her goal is to share as much knowledge as she can so it can continue on through her children and other Aboriginal youth to reclaim her cultural heritage and ensure its survival.

WHAT IS THIS COURSE ABOUT?

The Certificate II in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Arts (CUA20415) is a course for ATSI students with a keen interest in visual arts and indigenous culture. You’ll be gaining a greater understanding of your own sense of identity and how to project that into a creative arts practice — at the same time gaining practical skills in drawing, design, and painting. Graduate with a small body of your own creative work.

WHY SHOULD I STUDY THIS COURSE?

You should study this course if you are an Indigenous student wishing to develop their skills in a range of visual arts practices and media types as well as generate a vocational approach to their artwork. Students wishing to undertake further tertiary studies would also benefit from the folio preparation opportunities. All materials for the course are supplied as part of the program.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

In this course you will gain a well-developed command of technique in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural arts. Develop yourself as an artist and produce work that expresses your own cultural identity. Prepare stencils and screens for textile printing and experiment with techniques to produce paintings.

Successful completion of this course will prepare you to produce art and work in the Arts Industry.
