The disability sector needs you!

A shortage of workers is impacting the ability of many disability service providers to support the individuals who rely on them most. With the arts, media and entertainment sector still grappling with the effects of COVID-19, this could be an employment option to consider - even if only temporarily.

Jewel Topsfield, social affairs editor at The Age, recently reported that the disability sector is encouraging people who have been affected by COVID-19 to consider a career in disability services. This is because there’s currently a shortage of workers in the sector, and it’s this shortage which impacts the very ability of many service providers to offer the necessary services in the communities they operate in.

With an estimated 120,000 workers required to fill demand generated by the National Disability Insurance Scheme, for those who are seeking employment it is a worthwhile option to consider, even temporarily.

While qualifications aren’t necessarily required, for those who may wish to equip themselves with some relevant skills and knowledge, a Certificate IV in Mental Health will provide you with an excellent foundation from which to build upon. This is because the qualification equips you to provide self-directed recovery-oriented support for people affected by mental illness and psychiatric disability.
